Volunteer: Be a VITA Tax Volunteer!

United Way Charlotte County is recruiting volunteers for its VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program to serve as tax preparers, greeters, interpreters, and schedulers to provide FREE tax preparation to those in our community who have low to moderate income. Volunteers assist taxpayers by not only preparing a complete and accurate return and ensuring all eligible credits are claimed; they also save the taxpayer from paying preparations fees - money which can, instead, be used on food, diapers, medical expenses, clothing, daycare, rent, savings, and more.

Previous experience filing taxes is NOT required, and we will provide training. The most important skills to have include:

Ability to work with peopleAbility to learn and apply rules and tax lawAbility to make decisions and think criticallyAbility to enter information into tax softwareWillingness to ask questionsAttention to detail

The tax software does most of the math, so there's not a lot of manual calculation that has to happen.

There are over 20 VITA sites located throughout Lee, Hendry, Glades, and Charlotte counties. Each site has its own schedule and hours are flexible!

Please register today and join our team!

As an IRS-certified VITA volunteer, you will work alongside amazing community members who, each year, prepare thousands of tax returns in Southwest Florida for very appreciative taxpayers.
